Where oh where shall I pitch my tent?

A campsite can mean two different things. Firstly, there are organised sites with toilets, showers, a shop and maybe even washing machines.  If this appeals, remember the more facilities, the more people, so the bigger sites can be busy and noisy.  Larger sites may even have entertainment or a bar – and this can make nightimes noisy.  If this level of noise appeals, this type of campsite will suit, but if not select a quieter maybe smaller site.

The second type of campsite that you will come across is a site that you choose your pitch more freely.  This might be in a farmer’s field or open spot.  If it is in a field, you will need to get the owners permission.  Never assume you can pitch your tent there – some farmers don’t allow camping and get somewhat irate when they find people camping in their fields.

Suitable campsites aren’t ready-made.  One that suits some people may not be right for you.  However, there are some basics that you should be aware of before you set up your tent for the night.
